“Together – Making a World of Difference” - Photo Exhibition
When: 21 September to 15 October

As part of our 10th Anniversary celebrations, we are holding a photo exhibition to showcase the difference that ten years of Australian giving has made to the work of the UN Refugee Agency. The exhibition will portray images of refugees and displaced people from Africa to Afghanistan - the challenges they face in everyday life as well as the life-changing programs that have been funded with your support.

“Through the Lens: An African Perspective” - Thomas Mukoya seminar series Sydney 22 September | Melbourne 24 September | Canberra 28 September
Thomas Mukoya is an award-winning Kenyan photojournalist based in Nairobi. A Reuters photographer since 2004, his images have given the world glimpses of Africa’s beauty and tragedy.
Through his photography Thomas has documented many of Africa’s humanitarian crises, showing the circumstances of refugees and displaced people. In his presentations Thomas will share his experiences from the frontline, and the stories behind the lens.

Over 270 guests attended our Mother’s Day Lunch on 7 May in Sydney at the Ivy Ballroom. The event is an initiative of our Womens Committee which raises funds for UNHCR’s Safe Mother and Baby programs. Julie McCrossin, our MC, introduced former refugee Mary Fonah who spoke about her experiences as a midwife in a UNHCR refugee camp in Guinea. Our new Ambassador for UNHCR’s Safe Mother and Baby Appeal, Sarah-Jane Clarke of sass & bide, spoke about the need to support basic health services for new mothers and their babies.
The lunch raised over $60,000 for UNHCR’s Safe Mother and Baby program in Galkayo, Somalia. The event was sponsored by Man Investments (Gold sponsor), the Australian Securities Exchange (bronze sponsor) and the National Australia Bank (bronze sponsor).
