The Gift of Childhood

Sport, recreation and play can provide children affected by war and conflict with hope and a sense of normality. UNHCR’s sports programs play an important role in rebuilding the hope of children whose lives have been shattered and demoralised by fighting and displacement. The power of sport draws upon team spirit, social inclusion and mutual respect.

UNHCR’s Youth sports programs in countries such as Uganda, Thailand, Pakistan and Rwanda, aim to increase children’s learning opportunities, empower girls, and most importantly, help give children back their childhood.

UNHCR’s sports programs in refugee camps help to strengthen self-reliance, self-confidence and support social integration. Through sports activities such as football, basketball, tennis and various indoor games, UNHCR also promotes youth leadership and gender equality.

UNHCR programs also aim to increase the number of girls playing and participating in sports. Educating girls empowers them to grow to their full potential and to fully develop self-confidence and social skills.

Your donation today can help UNHCR give the gift of childhood for children affected by war and conflict.
